At Diamondawgs we strive to engage our athletes as an active part of the learning process by providing them with detailed information about the skill or movement being executed. The athlete then develops the knowledge to self-monitor and make the necessary adjustments rather than relying external feedback for each repetition. We understand that athletes must get to the point where they can feel their mistakes in order to correct them.
Training session will run through the follow time frames:

AcademyThe off-season offers a unique opportunity for players to make significant adjustments to their game without having to compete in game situations. Our goal with winter training is to provide players with the opportunity to develop as well rounded softball players and more superior athletes. Combining skill development with strength & conditioning sessions allows players to progress more quickly in areas like hitting power, throwing velocity, and base running speed. The holistic nature of the Academy Program will encompass skill development, the implementation of a mental approach to the game, physical development for enhanced performance, and injury prevention.
The Academy Program will allow players to combine all training sessions at a reduced cost. The Academy Program will also include periodic testing of key on-field metrics (e.g. throwing velocity & bat speed). Monday: Arm Strength (5:30pm) & Conditioning (6:45pm) Wednesday: Hitting (5:30pm) & Conditioning (6:30pm) Friday: Arm Strength (5:30pm) & Conditioning (6:45pm) Sunday: Defense (1:30pm) & Hitting (2:30pm) Phase #1: November 1st - December 19th (7 weeks - $998+GST) Phase #2: January 6th - March 1st (8 weeks - $1199 +GST |
HittingThe focus of each hitting session will be education. Hitters will learn the factors that influence the effectiveness of a swing, the areas of their swing that require adjustments, and how to self-monitor progress. The 8 week hitting progression will cover the following:
1. Developing consistency in the prep phases of the swing 2. Improving transfer of power to maximize solid contact 3. Developing a consistent hitting approach Sessions will include the use of bat sensors, video analysis, and radar gun readings. Choose your training time: -Wednesday 5:30-6:30pm COST: $295 +GST -Sunday 2:30-3:30pm COST: $295 +GST |
Arm StrengthFrom November to December the focus will be on developing arm strength and using video analysis to improve the arm action. Each session players will work through a consistent warm up, improve their arm action with drill work and video analysis, increase arm strength by throwing long toss & weighted balls, and complete a series of arm strengthening exercises for performance and injury prevention.
After developing a consistent arm action and increasing arm strength, the focus for January and February sessions will shift as position players begin to incorporate more defensive footwork. Each player will work on throwing footwork related to their position while continuing to improve strength and durability. Training time: Monday 5:30-6:45pm and Friday 5:30-6:45pm COST: $450 +GST |
DefenseInfielders and outfielders will have the opportunity to improve the fundamental skills of glove work and footwork. Efficient defensive techniques will be covered in depth as players improve their footwork, throwing ability, and fielding ability. There will also be a heavy emphasis on improving range and increasing foot speed at various positions.
Training time: Sunday 1:30-2:30pm COST: $250 +GST |
Strength & ConditioningThe physical demands placed on softball players are unique. The games basic skills require incredible amounts of power and speed that must be combined with balance and stability in order to perform them with precision. The athletic, core-based training style employed by Diamondawgs Conditioning will develop an athlete's strength while teaching them to stabilize their pelvis and core, maintain balance throughout dynamic movements, transfer power efficiently through the body, repeat mechanics with precision, move with greater efficiency and speed. Each training session will be led by a certified strength & conditioning coach.
November-December sessions will focus on building a solid physical foundation. At the beginning of every off-season it is critical to emphasize the development of strength, conditioning, joint stability, basic movement skills, and balance. Athletes will see large strength gains and an overall improvement in conditioning and agility. The focus of our sessions throughout January and February will be to take the athlete’s strength and turn it into baseball-specific power. Exercise tempos will increase and movements will more closely approximate skills performed on the field. Workloads will be tapered to have athletes peak for their evaluations and Opening Day. An off-season strength program that builds balance, strength, power, and agility will improve: -Power at the plate -Bat control -Ability to locate pitches -Range at all positions -Foot speed on defense -Speed on the base paths -Ability to stay healthy Training times: Monday 6:45-8:00pm Wednesday 6:30-7:45pm Friday 6:45-8:00pm COST: $425 |
